It all started in 1946 Charles (Charlie) E. Smith and Vesta J. Smith moved to Shongo, NY and bought a truck from his brother and started cutting and hauling logs into several local sawmills.

In 1948 Charlie and Vesta moved to Smethport, Pa where Charlie worked in a sawmill in East Smethport. Charlie also continued to cut and haul chemical wood and logs into several local mills.
 
In 1969 Charlie purchased a sawmill in Westport, Pa. It was in operation until the 1972 flood. He then decided to sell the mill and go into coal and clay stripping in Noyes Township while still logging for other mills.
 
In 1974 Smith Lumber started to do other work in the construction feild ,It all started with demolition of the old railroad station in Westport Pa. and also the old railroad station in Renovo, Pa.

In 1978 Charlie passed away leaving his son Charles (Bo) Smith and Vesta to carry on the business adding more construction work on with the logging. The construction company built bridges, foundations, reservoirs, water and sewer lines, sidewalks,  driveways, and miles of new dirt roads.  In 1992 Bo passed away leaving his son Charles (Mike) M. Smith and Vesta to carry on the business. In 2003 Vesta decided to retire turning her share of the business over to her daughter Barbara (Barb) Riddles. Mike and Barb have continued to carry on the family owned business.
 
In May of 2006 Mike and Rob Probst (Barb's Son) became partners of the Company. With over 30 years of combined knowledge they continue to provide first class services to central Pa.
